Psychological assessment can include screening and selection, facilitation of your self-understanding, or measuring the counseling progress. Other purposes include career interests, assessment of ability or achievement, intelligence, or personality, which can provide more information about you that, enhances the counseling process.
The comprehensive process of gathering information about you can help counselors define your problems and concerns; determine the frequency and intensity of these problems; and even more broadly determine how you and the people around you are being affected by these concerns.
Screening instruments are typically brief assessments and can help the counselor obtain a cursory overview of the client’s concerns. Screening inventories may also be used to decide whether more immediate or more intensive treatment is needed or to determine if further testing is needed.
